| Two Canton-made trucks get new look | | Posted Friday, February 02, 2007 12:49:05 PM by Blog57 Team | | Two Canton-made trucks will get makeovers and launch this spring as 2008 models as Nissan North America hopes to increase its share of a deflated U.S. truck market. The vehicles will debut next week at the Chicago auto show. Nissan's Titan pickup gains a long-wheelbase version and tweaked front-end styling. The Armada sport utility vehicle gets new body and interior colors as well as an updated gauge cluster and optional heated steering wheel. Neither vehicle has been significantly changed since production started in 2003. A third truck, the Smyrna, Tenn.-made Pathfinder, will get an optional V-8 engine for 2008. In the all-important American pickup market, the Titan is just a bit player. Last month, Nissan sold 5,226 Titans while Chevrolet moved 38,393 Silverados and Ford sold 44,919 F-series pickups.... | |

Police and officials from Worksafe Victoria were at Crystal Ice and Cool Stores, in Garsed Street, Bendigo after the incident about 4.30pm (AEDT) today. "A man has been crushed between two trucks," Worksafe's construction and utilities division director Geoff Thomas said. He said a police investigation was under way but it appeared one truck hit the man, which wedged him against another truck that was reversing nearby. | | | Market shifting from cars to trucks | | Posted Sunday, November 05, 2006 2:48:22 PM by Blog57 Team | | In August, when gas prices had settled in at about $3 a gallon, sales of the Toyota Camry were booming as the market shifted from trucks and sport-utility vehicles to more fuel-efficient models. But since then Camry sales, as well as car sales overall, have fallen off as gasoline prices have dipped into the $2-a-gallon range, and there's been a bit of shift back toward trucks. The change has pleased Detroit's Big Three, which are more reliant on trucks for profits than their Asian competitors, but some industry observers are cautioning against pronouncing any trends. ``It's a little bit dangerous just to assume that it's all correlated to gas prices,'' said Rebecca Lindland, an auto analyst at Global Insight, an economic research and consulting company.... | |

| | | Rosa Parks now selling Chevy trucks | | Posted Friday, October 27, 2006 6:49:37 AM by Blog57 Team | | DETROIT, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A television ad for one of Chevrolet's pickup trucks featuring civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks and Hurricane Katrina's devastation is getting mixed reviews. The Chevy Silverado ad features images from recent U.S. history, and is themed "Our Country, Our Truck," and was meant to be a patriotic statement, the Washington Post said Wednesday. NAACP spokesman Richard McIntire told the Post the nation's oldest rights group has received calls from people "enraged" by the use of Parks in a GM truck ad, as well as scenes of black neighborhoods devastated last year by Hurricane Katrina. The ad also shows images of a New York memorial to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, which angered Carie Lemack, who lost her mother in the attack.... | |

| | | Roadshow: Trucks will stay on Hwy. 152, but new truck lanes are planned | | Posted Sunday, October 22, 2006 2:48:22 PM by Blog57 Team | | Q The closing this week of Highway 152 made me wonder how many accidents happen on the Gilroy stretch between highways 156 and 101. Would it be feasible to ban trucks on that portion and route them over to Highway 25? Or would that just create more problems? Barbara Dalderis Los Gatos A Trucks will not be banned on Highway 152 east of Gilroy, for it would only trade one problem for another. The accident rate along the 13-mile stretch of 152 east of 101 is as much as 58 percent higher than on similar two-lane highways in California, and crashes have nearly doubled during the past 12 years. Yet fatalities and injuries have remained steady. Meanwhile, deaths and crashes soared on Highway 25 until four years ago when median rumble strips, no-passing zones and a lower speed limit were implemented.... | |

| | | Soot in diesel trucks exhaust doubles kids asthma risk | | Posted Wednesday, October 18, 2006 2:49:03 AM by Blog57 Team | | Washington, Oct. 17: A study on school students by scientists at the New York University has established a link between soot particles emanating from diesel trucks and asthma. The five-year long study by researchers from the university's School of Medicine and Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service showed that soot particles spewing from the exhaust of diesel trucks constitute a major contributor to the alarmingly high rates of asthma symptoms among school-aged children in the South Bronx. The researchers observed that over the course of the study, asthma symptoms, particularly wheezing, doubled among elementary school children on high traffic days, as a large number of students attend schools in close proximity to busy truck routes. While presenting their findings at a press conference, the researchers said that the main aim of their study was to examine the impact of industrial emissions on air quality, and to direct policy initiatives.... | |
