Don't confues a Sprots car with a Muscle car!!
Posted Wednesday, January 25, 2006 5:38:18 PM by Alex Molin

Do not confuse some muscle cars or other modified cars that have some sports abilities with pure sports car. Although they have more power and greater performance abilities than the typical cars they are heavier and have less handling characteristics than those of a true sports car.

A pure sports car is designed specifically to enable the car sporting performances.
Sports cars are usually designed to be small and low with high-powered engine. Most of them have two seats and two doors.

The main character of sports car is the stability of the car and the ability of the driver to control the car under challenging conditions such as when the car's tires begin to lose their grip on corners.

In spite of the common belief that sports car need to have a large, powerful engine, it is really not required. They might not accelerate quickly as muscle cars, but their combination of light weight, carefully engineered/balanced chassis and innovative suspension designs gave them the advantage needed.

In North American market, many sports cars are not available for sale or use in the United States and Canada. In Britain and Europe, the attitude is more flexible.

'King Richard' has other racers in awe

The king of stock car racing, the seven-time Winston Cup champion, the seven-time winner of the Daytona 500, the legend, the man, made a surprising admission on Saturday as he met with reporters before giving the command to start engines for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. After receiving a rousing ovation following his introduction at the pre-race drivers meeting in a crowded Victory Lane, Petty was part of an autograph session with drivers in the speedway's fan zone and spent more than a few minutes signing autographs for the competitors before meeting the faithful. That the drivers wanted his autograph left an impression. "It makes you feel good that you've got young drivers coming up, drivers you've heard tell of, or that you've met before, it makes you feel really small, I guess, that somebody that's in the same kind of business you are that kind of looks up to you or says 'OK, here's somebody who's helped us get to where we're at,' " Petty told reporters....

London mayor Ken Livingstone has proposed a levy of 25 pounds a day on drivers who use gas-guzzling SUVs or sports cars in the central London congestion zone. The mayor has suggested an emissions-based scheme for the city, which has now been released for consultation. According to the proposal, cars found to be producing more than 225 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer will face the levy. Vehicles that emit less than 120 grams of carbon dioxide will be exempted from the levy. Other vehicles will pay at the existing flat rate of 8 pounds. ....

Trucks and safety

In response to Pete Shellem's Oct. 15 article about a court ruling involving trucks, for the past 11 years my husband and I drove tractor-trailer from coast to coast. I'm now retired as an owner-operator. When you come to a city where there was any amount of traffic merging or exiting the interstate, there were signs posted about one mile prior to this stating, "All trucks left lane." This was very convenient, because you didn't interfere with the cars. They had access to the interstate without the trucks being there, only cars. When you were past the town or city, then there would be signs that trucks could use both lanes. I think every new automobile driver should ride in a big rig before getting their license. They could get a view of what it's like trying to see these little sports cars trying to squeeze beside you or any other car....

In Tomorrow's Paper

LOS ANGELES -- A judge declared a mistrial yesterday in the fraud and grand theft trial of a Swedish businessman whose 260-kmh wreck in a classic Ferrari led to the charges alleging he stole two luxury sports cars. Jurors told Judge Patricia Schnegg they were deadlocked 10-2 in favour of convicting Bo Stefan Eriksson. Eriksson, 44, was charged with two counts each of grand theft and fraudulent concealment with intent to defraud. Prosecutors said he stopped making payments on two luxury sports cars he had borrowed millions of dollars to lease and then tried to hide them. Los Angeles County District Attorney's spokesman Jane Robison said the office would retry Eriksson. Eriksson had previously pleaded no contest to a drunk driving charge in connection with the Feb....

SPORTS BRIEFS

Larry Nelson and Vijay Singh each took an unimaginable route to one of golf's greatest honors last night when they were inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Fla. "This is one of the biggest achievements in my life," Singh said. Nelson, a squadron leader for the 198th Infantry, never touched a golf club until he returned from the Vietnam War. He went on to win three major championships, including the 1983 U.S. Open at Oakmont, and remains the only American to go 5-0 in a Ryder Cup. Singh relied on a relentless ethic as he worked his way out of Borneo, onto the European Tour and eventually to the United States where he rose to No. 1 in the world ranking by winning nine times in 2004, the highlight of an eventful career that brought him three majors and 29 victories on the PGA Tour....

Future Boy: Hydrogen will fuel the cars of tomorrow
Posted Friday, October 27, 2006 2:49:09 AM by Blog57 Team
It would be so easy to disparage the BMW Hydrogen 7, the world's first production-ready hydrogen car and a guaranteed showstopper when it's unveiled next month at the Los Angeles Motor Show. After all, BMW plans to build only 100 of these vehicles next year. Of those, a mere 25 are headed to the U.S. Even then, only "ideal ambassadors" will be allowed to drive them, a BMW spokesman told CNNMoney last month. And those lucky few might have to pay a monthly fee for the privilege. In other words, if you live in an area without hydrogen fueling stations - which, by the way, happens to be most of America - you're out of luck. But let's look beyond these shortcomings. What's important about the Hydrogen 7 isn't how fast it's being rolled out or who gets to drive it. It's what's under the hood that matters....

At CHS, band doesn't take back seat to sports
Posted Sunday, October 22, 2006 10:50:53 AM by Blog57 Team
It's 7:45 a.m. on a Wednesday at Charlottesville High School, and a stream of teenagers pops out of cars near the entrance to the band room, soon to walk to the football practice field lugging instruments. "Could we look precise and not like we're walking through the cow fields together?" booms band director Vincent Tornello on his sound system as he overlooks the Marching Knights rolling their feet and blasting "Hava Nagila." "I'm gonna tie a red string around your arm so you know which way to go, like in kindergarten," he says in his native Long Island, N.Y., bluntness. The 32-year CHS band leader will never admit during practice that what his students are doing is hard, but in the privacy of his office, Tornello softens. "There are very few things in life requiring so many facets happening at the same time," he said....
