Car Wash - not that trivial
Posted Sunday, February 19, 2006 3:47:57 PM by Alex Molin

Keeping your car clean is not only a maintenance issue; it also shows a lot about you. If you care about how your car looks, you probably also care about its performance level and therefore don’t neglect taking care of other maintenance issues. Car wash is a simple action. You can either wash it manually or with high pressure car washes. How ever, hand washing is always better for your car, but most of us don't have the time for that.

Although it supposed to be simple, here are some useful and interesting tips for both manually and mechanic car washing:

Car wash

Hand washing

  • Don’t just wash with water, add soap to it. Due to the water surface tension, they tend to bead on shiny cars and the cleaning is minimal. If you are using a good soap, the soapy water doesn’t bead and will break down the water’s surface tension.
  • If you want your soap to remove grease and dirt, make sure it is a detergent, otherwise the only thing that will remove the dirt will be your wash cloth.

  • A good washing soap should make your paint feel slippery, so that the dirt will flow off your car.
  • Any product claiming to do both clean and wax your car is a compromise or worse.
  • Every time you wash your car, you strip off wax. It's going to happen no matter what you use since wax is supposed to slowly wear off to keep dirt from embedding in your paint.
  • Any wash product that doesn't make lots of lasting bubbles is not good for your car. The bubbles are essential to get the dirt off your paint without scratching.
  • The washing operation should be from top to down.
  • Use two wash cloths - one from the top to the middle (the beltline) and the second from the beltline down.
  • Wash one section at a time and use lots of water at low pressure to rinse.
  • Water alone are not the causes of rust, it is water combined with dirt. There are areas that accumulate dirt and get wet anyway as it rains so it is better to power wash them often

High pressure car washes

  • This option is good especially on non-freezing days, when you can't wash by hand or in other occasion when hand wash is not an option.
  • High pressure car washes often damage your car paint. Search for the newer washes or those that are maintained well.

END OF ROAD FOR OLD CAR WASH
Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 10:49:33 PM by Blog57 Team
The old pull chains were still hanging in some places, relics of a time Mike Sobieski remembered when they'd hook up customers' cars to a slow-geared motor and wash the vehicles by hand. The nostalgic chain barrier has been supplanted by a chain-link fence, and a wrecking crew was already tearing down a nearby diner Wednesday to make way for a planned Commerce Bank branch. By next week, the Lakewood Car Wash believed by the Sobieski family to be the oldest continuously operated car wash in Ocean County could be just a pile of bricks. "My dad, Ted Sobieski, purchased it in 1974. It dates back to the late 1950s, probably about 1959," Sobieski, 41, recalled. "The closest one was in Freehold. That's when Route 9 was a two-lane highway." Over the years, the car wash has handled up to 600 vehicles a day on busy Saturdays, and probably 1 million cars in all, Sobieski calculates....

STOKESDALE - A suspect did some car maintenance at B&G Car Wash in Stokesdale, and in the process nearly damaged the whole operation. The Guilford County Sheriff's Department says that someone went to the car wash at 7709 Athens Road sometime between 9 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 9 a.m. the following morning. While there, they changed their oil and cleaned out their engine, despite the fact that there are signs on the primises saying oil changes and cleaning of engines and mowing equipment are not permitted. The following morning, owner Bob Casey reported finding grease all over the car wash bay and oil in the pit. At least $1,000 of damage would have been done had the oil not reached the filter. Casey told officers that he would review the security tapes and let them know information on the suspect and the vehicle....

BALLARAT car wash businesses facing the prospect of stage four water restrictions are looking to alternative water sources. Under stage four restrictions which have been flagged to be introduced in November, water must not be used to wash any part of a vehicle other than its windows, mirrors and lights, and for spot-removing corrosive substances. Even then, the cleaning can take place only with a bucket filled directly from the tap. Under current stage three water restrictions commercial car washes are allowed to operate if less than 70 litres of water is used per vehicle. Water tanks have recently been installed at Neale Goad Auto Detailing in Wendouree in preparation for further water restrictions. Owner Neale Goad said the business had started looking at alternative water sources about six weeks ago....
